Lasting Love Requires Chemistry and Commitment Essay -- Relationships
Little girls dream about love. Young girls long to be loved. Maturing young women desire love. Actually, from the womb to the grave the need to be loved is a craving that must be satiated. Love can be an ever eluding force to be reckoned with. In contrast, love can capture a heart in a moment and last a lifetime. Love can be found in the imaginary world of fairy tales. However, love takes on a whole new dimension when one views it through the lens of reality. True love can last a lifetime. Little girls begin to watch fairy tale stories pertaining to love long before they can ever really understand such a thing. Yet, they are born with the need to be loved. There are many Disney movies that depict the fairy tale love that are the dreams dancing around in the head of almost every little girl. Jacob and Wilelm Grimm wrote what is believed by some to be the original version of the Cinderella story. The story differs from modern-day versions of the tale. Cinderellaââ¬â¢s mother was dying. The mother said, ââ¬Å"Dear child, I must leave you now, but I will look down on you from heaven. Plant a tree on my grave, and when you want something just shake the tree, and you shall get what you want. I will help you in time of need. Just remain pious and goodâ⬠(Gromm 405). Cinderella remained pure in heart and good despite all that her evil stepmother and stepsisters caused her to endure. Furthermore, true to her promise Cinderellaââ¬â¢s mother became her savin g grace. She always provided what her daughter needed. It was through that provision that against all odds Cinderella found true love. In the fairy tale, the difference in social status did not thwart love. It would have been highly unlikely that the prince would have chosen Cinder... ...r would lead to a security that would allow total abandonment of oneââ¬â¢s self to another. While the little girl who needs love is growing into the woman who will experience love, the little boy is playing war games and growing into the man who will protect and provide for the woman. Men and women define love differently, experience love differently, and express love differently. However, both in their own way deep down in their inner most being long for and would do almost anything to obtain a love that will last a lifetime. Works Cited: Carey, Benedict. "The Brain in Love." Ethics of War based on religion Essay
If you ask anyone, they will give you their opinion, their view on war. Whether they believe its right, its wrong, or if they think it is all based on the situation at hand. Wars have been going on since the beginning and they are still going on today, but are they being fought for a purpose? Are they being fought due to a situation that has arisen? This essay will discuss two ethical frameworks and how they apply to the same issue. The ethical issue that will be discussed throughout this essay is that of ââ¬ËWarââ¬â¢, and the frameworks that surround it are Situation Ethics and the Duty-Based Ethics. Situation ethics is when a choice is made based on the circumstances at hand. In situation ethics there is no right or wrong answer as each circumstance has different outcomes. ââ¬Å"Situation ethics rejects prefabricated decisions and prescriptive rulesââ¬â¢. It teaches that ethical decisions should follow flexible guidelines rather than absolute rules, and be taken on a case by case basis.â⬠à This ethical framework provides so much discussion as each situation that evolves will have a reaction, and the challenge is to choose the least harmful or problematic option; it all depends on the situation. The situation ethics surrounding war is if itââ¬â¢s right to fight against a country. There was recently a situation whether or not it was right for the USA to invade Syria for using chemical weapons. The outcome was that the USA did not end up going to war, as it would cause more damage then what has already happened. Althoughà Barack Obama, the president of the USA, did apprehend the chemical weapons so cases like this did not happen again. Duty-based ethics is when someone does the right thing even though it may cause more harm then good. There are people out there who criticize men and women from the defence forces for being ââ¬Ëkillersââ¬â¢, but this is not the case, these men and women put their lives on the line so they can fight for freedom, for those who canââ¬â¢t. Duty-based ethics teaches that some acts are right or wrong because of the sorts of things they are, and people have a duty to act accordingly, regardless of the good or bad consequences that may be produced. ââ¬Å"Some kinds of action are wrong or right in themselves, regardless of the consequences.â⬠. A soldier would have to face duty-based ethics on a regular bases throughout a war, as it is their job to fight and protect people against harm. Ben Roberts-Smith is a prime example, as he put himself on the line by drawing away the enemy, just so the rest of his unit would survive. That is just one example of many different types of duty -based ethics that would be faced throughout a war. Although situation ethics and duty-based ethics are quite different they both apply to the ethical issue of war. Each framework discussed in the essay applies to war, but situation ethics seems to be the weaker of the two as it is based on what the person thinks the best outcome will be in that situation rather then, duty-based ethics which is what the right thing is to do at that moment in time. Duty-based ethics is definitely the one that relates best to the issue of war, as it is a soldierââ¬â¢s job to do what is right, at the moment the issue arises. Throughout this essay the ethical issue of war was discussed based on the ethical frameworks that surround it, which are situation ethics and duty-based ethics. The framework that proves to be the more applicable comparison to the issue of war is duty-based ethics, because they are decisions made based on the right thing to do. Examples Of Everyday Tragedy - 732 Words
Everyday Tragedy When a person thinks of tragedy the thing that flows to mind is death and destruction. Even though this way of thinking is valid, there are several ways to analyze the concept of tragedy. Tragedy is when one suffers an unexpected punishment that has merged together through ones actions. Arthur Miller believes that tragedy can happen to any type of person if youre rich or if youre poor, no matter what, it can happen to all of us. Arthur shows this to us in the book Death of a Salesman where the common man meets the fate of modern day tragedy. In the story Death of a Salesman, Arthur shows that tragedy is not for those who have power, it goes for anyone. People used to think that tragedy would go to those who haveâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦This is how Arthur shows us his definition of tragedy that can happen to the average man. I believe in Millerââ¬â¢s definition of tragedy and the way he showed it to us was a good piece of evidence in this definition. The life of Willy Loman was tragic in my eyes, actually in a way I can see him as my dad. My dad works hard to make sure my mom and I live in a good environment by working hard. Everyday, he comes back tired and stressed but still keeps on going. Willy is a good father and husband trying to make his family live a happy life and make sure they have no troubles and live in peace. Even for the sake of his own life he will do anything for his familys happiness. Which through his actions he sadly led himself to his tragic fate, trading his life for his familyââ¬â¢s happiness. The reason why he killed himself was to make sure Biff could have a good startup in business and make lots of money so he can live a life without stress. Arthur Millers meaning of tragedy says that tragedy can happen to any type of man, it doesnââ¬â¢t matter how people see you in life it can still happen. In the story, we see the life of a common man having your everyday struggles and working hard to have good things in life. The Learning Environment That Has Been Created For...
The learning environment that has been created is for children ages 6 to 8. It is a kid-friendly environment where children can interact with their peers as well as concentrate on learning. Everything is spreaded out in the class, therefore, the environment is not cluttered. The open space allows the students to concentrate and learn whether in a group setting or by themselves. The furniture is arranged so that they can transition from any location in the room and not feel they are obligated to one area, but free to learn in all areas. The round table has been placed in the center of the room along with the bean bags. The center area will allow them to move around as well as stimulate the mind with reading or games. The drama play would allow the students to dress up and pretend to be someone else or just be dramatic and play with the imaginary friends. The area is set aside so that children can be whoever they and try to turn them into something or someone they are not. It is a must for the children to receive a positive feedback during this time of life. Teachers nor parents should not try to force them into being something or someone they are not. Amazon s Financial Reporting Model Essay - 2049 Words
The company I selected is Amazon, Inc.com and itââ¬â¢s considered the ââ¬Å"everything storeâ⬠. It supplyââ¬â¢s consumers with low prices from supplying vendors at a cheaper shipping rate included because of the companies contracts with United States Postal Services and UPS. All companies must follow specific orders and guidelines to do business in the United States. The SEC, or Securities and Exchange Commission, is the government entity that is responsible for looking after the economy by keeping corporations and businesses honest. Each company must file their financial reports to the SEC and have a chance of being audited by the PCAOB, or Public Company Accounting Oversight Board. Amazon Inc. com is one of those businesses. Amazonââ¬â¢s financial reporting model has assumptions and principles, there are individuals responsible for overseeing the accounting professions and they must file an annual report as well as a 10-K and 10-Q report, and many disclosures that are available to the public. They base these conditions on how their projections will change in regards to their earnings, cash flow, revenue, and balance sheets. Amazon uses a revenue growth rate, expected tax rate, and gross margin assumption (Harman, 2009). Tom became noticeably insecure and had a lot of trouble dealing with his own emotions let alone everyone elseââ¬â¢s. Kylie became an angry teenager. She didnââ¬â¢t want anything to do with any of her family at first. She couldnââ¬â¢t stand being around them. Tess was neglectful to her family and only cared about Daniel. She was depressed to the point of being catatonic. Kath was bitter and became Kylies ââ¬Ësurrogate motherââ¬â¢ while Tess was in the state she was in. Finââ¬â¢s greatest regret was that he survived. Being a paraplegic, he has nothing to look forward toâ⬠¦he is forever a spectator. Joe was constantly trying to see things from everyoneââ¬â¢s point of view. The whole family became very dependent on him, and his biggest job was keeping the family together. all this texts reflect the experiences, ideas, knowledge and beliefs that are evident in society, and reflected throughout these texts. J. C Burke emphases many themes thought out The Story of Tome Brennan such as fear, relationships and growing up. These thematic concerns are echoed in the related texts thus linking the texts and reflecting how texts may represent society. Fear is a fundamental theme throughout the text The Story of Tom Brennan. Fear becomes an obstacle for tom to move into the world, he feels unsure and paranoid of what his class mates have heard about him and his family. the old man told me that night that Harvey knew about the accident and Daniel and stuff. I didnt feel comfortable about it this conveys the message that tom is both afraid and uncertain of where his new life may take him. The use of flashbacks throughout the novel plays a vital role in conveying the theme of fear. This technique allows the reader to empathise with Tom and stimulate readerââ¬â¢s curiosity thus establishing reader engagement. Similarly kylie faces fear of acceptance within her new school. She reacts differently to Tom and exposes the secrets in a dramatic way. Her changing hairstyle is also representative of her fear and difficulty in facing challenges as they lie ahead. The film Charlie st Cloud directed by Burr Steer, deals with a tragedy similar to the catalyst for change found in Burkes novel. This film explores the perspective if the protagonist Charlie who is involved in a fatal car crash resulting in the death of his younger brother Sam. Gripped by remorse, guilt and fear Charlie abandons his future dreams and becomes the care taker of the waterside cemetery, leaving his friends and future at collage behind. he is tied to the cemetery via the ghostly appearances of his brother Sam, and friends that have ventured into the world and passed away. Charlies fear and withdrawal is evident when the recurring shots of his now abandoned sailing boat is juxtaposed with the possibilities of Charlie changing his life and moving into the world. the boat becomes a symbolic motif for Charlies fear and guilt. Whilst in Burkeââ¬â¢s novel the hill becomes a symbolic motive for facing fears and challenges. Facing transitions and dealing with dramatic change has a influencing aspect on family and personal relationships, through the text we see the dynamics of relationships and roles of family shift to meet the needs of each individual as they face the challenge of moving in to the world before them. he manner in which the various members of the Brennan family relate to each other, as well as the horrible situation they are faced with because of Daniels reckless and irresponsible behaviour, are an important part of the text. They remain a united family even though they are faced with an extremely complex situation. Joe Brennan, the father i s pulled in many different directions but seems to be able to keep calm at all times. He visits Daniel and fin on a regular basis, tries to keep tom interested in rugby and is very supportive of his wife Tess, who has become almost catatonic from her grief. he contrasting behaviours of these characters highlights the differences in individuals when they are faced with challenges in their journey of moving into the world. Tracy champans song Fast Car also highlights the challenges and changes required by individuals to move into the world. Throughout the lyrics of this song we are introduced to the personas voice as she recounts the challenges and choices she has faced to move into the world. She chose to leave school to look after her alcoholic father but is astute enough to know that to remain is to die for he is beyond her help. Also throughout the lyrics we are introduced to her partner, and soon realise she is the productive one, the worked, the organiser, the one who access they have nothing to lose because they are both beginning from zero. The use of poetic voice here also shows the transition in time and a growing maturity and list of responsibilities for the persona in the text. Flashbacks like the non-linear structure of burkes text, are also evident within this song; they are used to give information about what she remembers and hoped for. The song explores three time phases, past, present and future which are representative of the young womanââ¬â¢s limited poverty bound existence, hopes and dreams and the final decision that offers her a change to move into the world. Growing up is a recurring theme within the novel ââ¬ËThe Story of Tom Brennanââ¬â¢ and each character grows and matures though time. Tom matures sexually and his romantic interest in Chrissie is possibly all that is needed for him to lead forward. As he says in the final line of the novel, ââ¬Ëthat was the morning Tom Brennan came back foreverââ¬â¢. Tom also shows growth and maturation within his football team. Football symbolises the friendships that Tom acquires in Coghill because once again he is an important member of the team. The ascension hill symbolise toms struggle and his journey, he sees it as a challenge, and though running with Brendan, he becomes better at reaching its peak and subsequently moving into the world. Tess also shows growth within the novel. ââ¬Ëâ⬠one small step for man. One giant leap for mankindâ⬠ââ¬â¢ cause today for my family, that is what it was like. Tom stating how he felt when Tess got out of bed. This was the beginning of her emotional recovery and the initial transition for Tess to again enter the world after the dramatic crisis faced. growing up and moving into the world is also evident in the film ââ¬ËCharlie st cloudââ¬â¢ as Charlie makes a live changing decision to leave his brother Sam behind and chase his future dreams. This is symbolic in his return to sailing. Film techniques which help highlight this are the use of ââ¬Ëheavenly light as Charlie watches the sunset aboard the boat and makes the decision to leave his past behind. The symbolism of the sun rising reflects this change in attitude. The storm and the violent scenes presented in this scene sequence along with the dramatic and loud music and sound utilised in the scene also highlights the conscious decision for Charlie to change and move into the world choosing the path of his future. You cannot alter the past. Only when individuals move on can they achieve happiness. People encounter different experiences and respond to them differently, this is highlighted throughout the novel ââ¬ËThe Story of Tom Brennanââ¬â¢ by J. C Burke and related text ââ¬ËFast Carââ¬â¢ by Tracy Chapman and the film ââ¬ËCharlie st. Cloudââ¬â¢ by Burr Steer. Themes such as fear, the dynamics of relationships and growing up are all evident within these texts and help show understanding of how characters face challenges and move into the world. Techniques which are used to convey this is flash backs, past and present tense, first person narrative and non-liner structure along with filmic techniques which shape meaning and understanding
